Remix Swing was founded in 2022 in Waterloo, Ontario by Mikaela Lewis. Currently based out of Knox Presbyterian Church Hall (and other nearby locations) in Uptown Waterloo, Remix Swing runs West Coast Swing classes, workshops, social dance parties, and events in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph. West Coast Swing (WCS) is a modern, ever-evolving partner dance that is characterized by its linear, elastic movement and freedom of expression. We dance WCS to a huge range of music including funk, pop, RnB, hip hop, swing, blues, rock... and more!

Wednesdays at 8-9PM
Thursdays at 6-7PM

Mikaela is a friendly, passionate and highly skilled instructor! She makes her classes approachable to absolute beginners and also makes sure to give personalized feedback to take your dancing to the next level. And of course they are super fun!

Mikaela Lewis is an excellent teacher. I took a beginner west coast swing class from her last month and had a blast! She strikes the perfect balance of teaching new moves, providing a little theory and technique, and having fun.
Her classes are designed to be inclusive. She encouraged us to rotate partners every few minutes, making it possible to improve our skills by dancing with different leads/follows. While some people stuck with their original partner, I really enjoyed meeting new people.
She also knows how to adjust her feedback based on the individual. She's encouraging and positive to new dancers. As somebody coming from the salsa/bachata community, she gave me tons of pointers to help me adjust to the new style.
Also, she as good music choice. Classes are tons of fun, will come again. :)

Mikaela is one of the best dance instructors that I've had the pleasure of learning under. Her classes go beyond teaching simple moves but also incorporating dance technique in a beginner friendly manner. I went there to learn West Coast Swing, but her teaching methodology also allowed me to transfer my skills to completely different dance styles, such as Salsa or Bachata.
Beyond teaching, Remix Swing is doing amazing work in bringing together a dance community that provides a safe and comfortable for people to get to know each other and just dance!

What I really like about Remix Swing, is that you learn not only the movement techniques of West Coast Swing, but also how to connect with your partner while dancing. Mikaela Lewis is a great instructor, she cares about each one of her students, either if you have none or some dancing background; additionally, she gives you meaningful critiques not only how to improve in WCS, but also how can you transition and recognize movements from different dance styles.
I personally heard about WCS just a couple of months ago, and started classes this month, but I can tell Mikaela Lewis knows how to get you involved into dancing and feel the music vibe.
I am looking forward to know more and more about it; and if you want to learn WCS properly in the KW area and surroundings, she is the right person to ask for.
